‘WYCLIFFE UK’ Ministry
We count it a blessing to have worked on such a vital construction project! WYCLIFFE UK is a very active center for those involved with Bible Translation. Renovation of the second floor of the ‘BEDE’ building is to be complete sometime n April 2008.
George, with assistance of others, made 29 shelving units, 20 closet door jambs, 2 sets of closet doors, 2 closet shelves, 2 special elevator doors, 2 and part of a third wood/glass fire-barrier walls, including doors, installed at the top of the stairways. Everyone was very appreciative of the quality of work we completed.
We are so blessed to have renewed many acquaintances as well as developing may new friendships.
Evelyn’s perspective:
Since there was not always construction type work for me to be involved in, several of the ladies start4d a sewing ministry which involved repairs for the housekeeping department, patching workers clothes and alterations for the missionaries and staff. I had a sewing craft class which I conducted one evening a week for several weeks.
While sewing we had a lot of interaction with young girls called “vollies” (volunteers). Many European and Scandinavian countries encourage their youth to serve 6 months to a year performing volunteer service before entering higher education. These youth are given English classes and an in depth Bible study and are introduced to all the phases of the work Wycliffe is doing around the world. The vollies are given room and board and a stipend for their services. These vollies are earnestly seeking God’s leading in their lives. We were able to share, encourage and pray with them when they just needed someone with whom to talk.
Because Horsely’s Green is the center for Eurasia, which also includes North Africa we were able to interact with multiple nationalities who were in training, were missionaries or other workers. Our hearts were challenged as well as encouraged with these godly people at meal and break times. Our vision has expanded and will never be the same. I praise the Lord that He allowed me to be used for His service at Horsley’s Green.
