Calvary Baptist Church is part of the Baptist General Conference and the Mideast Baptist Conference. We are ministry partners with Camp Burton in Burton, Ohio which provides summer camping ministry through our Mideast Baptist Conference. We are also associated with the National Association of Evangelicals.
Missions are a strong part of Calvary's ministry to both those close at hand as well as around the world. Locally we are ministry partners with the pregnancy Support Center in Warren, the Warren County Bible Club (sponsoring released time classes in public schools), the Warren County Jail Ministry, Hope Vision in Clarendon, and the Family Life Network.
We support starting new churches (e.g. Salmon Creek Community Church near Rochester, N.Y.) in our region, through the Mideast Baptist Conference. Across the globe we support missionaries from Japan to Thailand to Mexico- many of whom have their roots in our local church. We encourage people from our church to participate in short term missions and last summer had two people spend a month in Thailand.
A small group of Swedish immigrants living in Warren in 1890 joined together to form the First Swedish Baptist Church of Warren. (The Baptist General Conference was originally made up of Swedish Baptists.) In 1932 the name was changed to Calvary Baptist Church. The first church building was located at the corner of Redwood and Center streets in Warren, but it burned to the ground in 1957. Four years later the first service was held in the present building on Conewango Avenue. Now, after 110 years of ministry, Calvary Baptist holds to the unchanging Word of God while meeting the ever-changing needs of our community, looking forward to a new century of serving Christ until He comes.
We believe that practical expressions of love for one another reflect the new life each person can have by believing in Jesus Christ. Families and singles, young and old, people from every walk of life make up the community of faith at Calvary. It is our desire to develop fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ by relating the principles of God's Word to our lives.
